Wild Edibles

Details of latest walk is on the home page.

People ask us what we do with our weeds and our response is "we eat them".  The wild edibles are more nutritious and easier to grow than any of the "domesticated" plants we grow in our garden.

We recommend the following plants in your garden as edibles/drinks and for medicine/salves/tinctures:  (Note:  we have recently added Florida Betony to this list.)

1.   Lambsquarters
2.   Purslane
3.   Chickweed (especially good to feed the chickens)
4.   Sorrel
5.   Spiderwort
6.   Comfrey
7.   Cabbage
8.   Dollarweed
9.   Dandelion
10. Wild strawberries
11. Violets
12. Calendula
13. Borage
14. Henbit
15. Pokeweed
16. Florida Betony

This is just to name a few.  Purslane for instance, is sold at farmer's markets throughout the globe because it is higher in Omega 3's than any other plant known to man on this planet.  Yet, in America we are encouraged to grow it as a landscape plant, or to kill it with roundup.
