We will discuss layering your backyard with perennial plants, that once established, pruning to keep each plant in its space is just about all you need to grow food in your backyard without the need to replant every year. - - Hypertufa Class - Come join us and bring a friend to make your own planters, garden stones and more out of a light weight material. Everyone in the class will get a chance to make a container or other garden feature of their choice that they can take home with them. Cost is $20 per person plus materials. - Developing an Eco-System in Your Garden and/or Your Patio, Backyard, etc. We will have hands on demonstrations of how to construct homes for several creatures that you will enjoy having around, whether it is just for the pleasure of it or it is to enhance the bug control in your garden. This will include not only birds, but also bats (yes, they actually eat every bug that is a nuisance to humans, toads, etc. We will include information on constructing a water feature as well as a wetland area for aquatic plants, especially the edible ones.
- Garden Plan - We will develop your own personal garden plan that covers an entire year, including succession cropping, companion planting, when to start seeds, which plants you can transplant and which ones you need to sow direct into the soil.
- Survival Gardening - The workshop from earlier this year will be repeated for those who missed it. We will have lots of tips on how to become self-sufficient and sustainable. We will demonstrate how to build solar ovens, from sophisticated ones to very basic ones. We will have discussions on how to store water, food, seeds, along with items that should be in your Bug Out Bag, how to heat your home and water with solar energy very inexpensively, and much, much more.
