We applaud our workshop sponsor, Florida A&M University,
for giving us the opportunity to share our knowledge about organic gardening with the community, and in turn, we learn something from everyone who comes to visit our farm.
Our goal at BACKYARD FARM is to provide a pleasant, relaxing, country setting where people feel comfortable,
the atmosphere is family-friendly, and where people can
come together to share their love for gardening/farming.
The second part of this goal is for people to take a vast amount of information back home with them, and that we, in some way, have inspired them or helped them in their own gardening/farming/ ranching endeavors.
Monthly Organic Gardening Workshops
The subject matter changes every month.
We have discussions, lectures, question and answer periods, as well as, hands-on activities.
We cater to everyone from beginners to advanced.
At least once a year we hold gardening
classes for children
in hopes of growing future gardeners.
Our next wild edible workshops will be in the Spring.
Please watch for our "Upcoming Workshops" for dates and times.
We also offer free farm tours for
individuals and groups
by appointment.
Our food/plants are grown naturally in raised beds.
We have not put anything on our garden this year,
not even organic controls, for pest control or other problems.
We use a supplement that has 90+ sea minerals*,
including major, minor and trace elements.
However, since our beds are not even a year old,
we are still in the process of building the soil.
We believe if you build the soil, the plants will come.
SEA-90 is an inexpensive natural fertilizer/pesticide/fungicide
that has been used in Australian agriculture for over twenty years, and contains around 90 minerals and trace elements.
We discuss how to remineralize your garden/pasture with these sea minerals and how to give to your animals at all of our workshops.
Application of this OMRI listed fertilizer results in healthier,
more nutrient dense foods with a longer shelf life.
We offer SEA-90 in:
1 ounce bag for $1.00 - makes 9.6 gallons
1 pound for bag for $10.00 - makes 96 gallons,
50# bags for $40.00 Each
Please contact us if you are interested.
Watch for our new website dedicated solely to sea minerals, meanwhile,
For more information on the minerals,
please visit one or more of the sites below:

We extend our growing season
one month in early spring and one month in late fall
by converting our raised beds to mini-greenhouses.
We plant heirloom seeds by the phases of the moon according to the Old Farmer's Almanac.
We companion plant and utilize crop rotation and intercropping techniques, as well as, seed saving for the next crop.
All of our methods are intended to preserve the life cycle of nature by developing an eco-system in the garden.
Our goal is sustainable agriculture and nutritionally dense food with high BRIX readings which amounts to healthy, flavorful food.
Since we put in the raised beds, we've cut our own food bill by 80%.
We believe it doesn't get any better than going to the garden to pick fresh food for dinner knowing it was not grown with
chemicals that can endanger our health.
Afterall, if you don't have your health, what do you have?
Our products include salad tables, boxes for seed starting,
and elevated beds for those who cannot bend over to garden, are physically or otherwise challenged.
Please click on the link below if you'd like to visit our Online Store at Local Harvest*
www.localharvest.org/farms/M31461
* The sea minerals and the elevated beds are not on localharvest.org because we do not manufacture the materials here on the farm.
If you are interested in either of these two products,
please contact us through this site.
We usually have for purchase fresh, free-range chicken eggs, vegetable plants, strawberry plants, seasonal vegetables/edible flowers, and homemade jams, along with fresh, wholoesome baked goods
such as bread, muffins, cookies and everyone's favorite,
rosemary olive oil cake.
Please check back later if the item you want is not in the inventory.
Please contact us if you don't see something you wanted,
as we may be able to assist you.
Please be sure to support your local farmers!
